This page presents the transcript of the historic video «Ipnosi Guaritrice» by Prof. Erminio Di Pisa, recorded in a television studio. The video (425 MB, audio 56 MB) is preserved in the ISI-CNV archive. The transcript was produced with Whisper (583 segments, ~28,000 characters) on May 16, 2026.

The video documents both the theoretical part and live practical demonstrations on subjects in the studio — an exceptional primary source for understanding the Di Pisa method in action.

The central thesis of the video

The video deals with the hypnotic treatment of musculoskeletal disorders using the eyes-open hypnosis method. Di Pisa argues that most musculoskeletal disorders have a functional component (stress, nervous tension) that responds perfectly to direct hypnosis, without hypnotic sleep.

Key diagnostic principle: fascination/eyes-open hypnosis serves as a **differential test** — if the pain disappears during the session, the component is functional and hypnosis is the treatment of choice. If it does not disappear, the problem is purely organic.

The historical origins of the method — Donato explicitly cited

Di Pisa frames his work within a precise historical tradition:

Dr. Grimm (1803, America): «He wanted to do a very strange thing: while awake, to his own patient, he would say in an authoritative tone and obtain the same results as if he were sleeping.» — Dr. Grimm is identified by Di Pisa as the founder of eyes-open hypnosis: directive commands to the alert patient, same results as classical hypnosis.

Donato: «It was a method used by **Donato**, he was a popularizer of hypnotism in France towards the end of the last century, with this method he achieved astonishing results.» — Di Pisa explicitly cites Donato as the master of eyes-open fascination, placing him as a direct precursor to his technique.

This chain — Grimm → Donato → Di Pisa → Paret — is now documented by Di Pisa's own voice.

The disorders treated in the video

Di Pisa systematically lists the musculoskeletal pathologies that respond to eyes-open hypnosis:

  • Headache and migraine — main cause: muscle tension and stress
  • Torticollis — spasm of the neck muscles, often functional
  • Blepharospasm — spasm of the orbicularis muscle: «can be resolved with 4-6 sessions»
  • Whiplash — both the immediate trauma and chronic sequelae
  • Dorsalgia (back pain) — of tension origin
  • Arthritis and osteoarthritis — inflammatory component amplified by stress
  • Tinnitus — «in the vast majority of cases it is due to stress and strong tensions. The disorder can arise from spasm of the palate muscles and the Eustachian tube»

Tinnitus is treated in 1-2 sessions in the same session. A patient present in the studio describes their tinnitus («the whistling is there»). Di Pisa notes that someone wanted to operate by destroying the cochlea, but with hypnosis it is possible to avoid this.

The technique: eyes-open hypnosis without sleep

From the practical part of the video, the technique emerges clearly:

Direct eye contact: «Look me straight in the eyes» / «Look me in the eyes for a moment»

Count and command: «One, two, three» → followed by the specific therapeutic command for the disorder

No formal induction: There is no relaxation-drowsiness-sleep progression. The subject remains completely alert, fixes their eyes on the therapist's, and receives the direct command.

Contextual physical touch: On tension points — neck, shoulders, lumbar area — combined with the verbal command.

This corresponds exactly to what Di Pisa describes in the book: «The gaze produces in the people you will fix at the root of the nose the phenomenon of fascination, that is, of suggestion.» Eyes-open fascination is the mechanism — eye contact produces the same cognitive bypass without the subject «falling asleep» in the classical sense.

Practical session: live cases

The video documents a sequence of brief sessions with subjects in the studio, each with their own disorder:

  • Lumbago — treated with direct command + touch on the lumbar area
  • Knee osteoarthritis — Di Pisa also mentions folk remedies (cabbage, onion and bran poultice) as a complement
  • Torticollis — treated with direct gaze + touch on the neck
  • Tinnitus — treated in a few minutes
  • Vertigo — classified as often of tension origin

The results in the brief sessions (2-5 minutes) are immediate and visible during the broadcast.

The connection with Luys

Di Pisa operates exactly as described by Luys for therapeutic fascination: the subject is in an eyes-open fascination state (not in deep léthargie), suggestibility is complete, and the therapeutic suggestion produces immediate and verifiable effects.

The difference is that Luys used the miroir rotatif as an aid; Di Pisa uses direct gaze — Donato's technique in its purest form.

Notes on the transcript

The transcript (Whisper small, 65 min processing) reflects Di Pisa's colloquial and sometimes dialectal speech. Some words are mangled by the automatic transcription («liplotism» = hypnotism, «dinosi lo che» = Donato, «ostacchio» = Eustachio). The meaning is always clearly reconstructable from the context.
