The Revue Le Magnétisme (subtitle: Journal de Psycho-Physiologie) is the scientific journal founded and directed by Donato in Paris, published during the year 1886 with articles and documents covering the period 1880-1886. It is the most important primary source for the study of the Donato method.

The journal is preserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and is now digitized. The original issues in docx format are available in the ISI-CNV archive on Google Drive.

Structure and content

The journal is organized into several recurring sections:

Introduction — Donato presents his vision of magnetism as the direct heir of Mesmer's discovery, distinguishing himself from the fluid-physical approach to embrace a psycho-physiological explanation.

Les Fascinés peints par eux-mêmes — The most valuable section: first-person letters from subjects describing their experience during fascination. It covers testimonies from Belgium, Holland, France, with precise names, dates, and places.

Philosophie d'un Magnétiseur — Maxims and reflections by Donato on the nature of magnetism, the magnetizer, and his relationship with the world.

Les Méthodes de Fascination de Donato — Scientific article describing the methods with references to observations by Dr. Brémaud (1884) and Dr. Dufour.

Suggestion Mentale — Articles and scientific correspondence on thought transmission and telepathic phenomena in the state of fascination.

The December 1880 lecture

The most important document in the journal is the lecture given by Donato in December 1880 before the doctors of the Canton of Vaud (Switzerland), under the chairmanship of Dr. Marc Dufour. In this lecture, Donato describes for the first time in a systematic way his method, the mechanism of the state of fascination, and the progressive stages attainable through it.

It is in this document that the famous physical description of the fascinated subject appears: dangling arms, clenched fists, rigid legs, congested face, wide-open and fixed eyes, dilated pupils, frequent pulse, gasping breath.

Importance for the Method Paret

Donato's journal is one of the primary sources on which ISI-CNV teaching is based. Marco Paret studied these texts directly and extracted the essential principles: the «ébranlement», speed, energy, the three forms of preventive exhaustion, the psychic (not physical) nature of fascination, the progressive stages.

Understanding this journal is the historical and theoretical foundation of the Ball of Light and all direct fascination techniques of the Method Paret.
