Strong Somnambulism (Solve et Coagula) is a technique of the Method Paret in the hypnosis category that induces a deep somnambulistic state through the alternation of energetic dissolution (solve) and conscious recombination (coagula), according to the alchemical principle.
Definition
Strong Somnambulism represents an evolution of conventional somnambulism, based on Dr. Marco Paret's discovery that the sequence ecstasy → brief awakening → non-verbal induction generates states of depth significantly superior to the standard protocol. The method exploits the hermetic principle of Solve et Coagula (dissolve and coagulate): during ecstasy, the subject's energies ascend causing hyperesthesia; the expulsion of thoughts from the top of the head creates an empty space that, properly managed through non-verbal induction, allows regression into an extremely deep and responsive somnambulistic state.
When to use it
This technique is indicated in advanced educational contexts and in clinical situations where exceptional hypnotic depth is required. It is preferably applied to subjects already familiar with altered states of consciousness and with sufficient experience in hypnotic work. Its complexity makes it unsuitable for beginners.
Components and steps
- Emotional and bodily induction: controlled activation of emotion combined with breathing techniques involving the entire body
- Ascension towards ecstasy: guidance towards a state of ecstasy, during which vital energies ascend and sensory hyperesthesia manifests
- Brief tactical awakening: momentary interruption of the ecstatic state, creating a conscious discontinuity
- Silent non-verbal induction: communication through presence, movement, and magnetism—without words—that redirects the subject towards somnambulism
- Creation of mental emptiness: expulsion of thoughts from the top of the head, generating the necessary empty space
- Deep somnambulistic regression: stabilization in a somnambulistic state of extreme depth, with almost total dissociation
Distinctions
- vs Standard Somnambulism: the Paret method does not proceed linearly towards somnambulism, but rather passes through ecstasy and exploits the tactical awakening to increase the final depth
- vs Presence Techniques: Strong Somnambulism integrates non-verbal presence as a tool for re-induction after ecstasy, rather than as a primary means
- vs Ericksonian hypnosis: uses alchemical and energetic principles (solve/coagula) instead of indirect metaphorical logic

Notes
- – Specify the recommended duration of the brief tactical awakening between ecstasy and re-induction
- Common mistake: attempting the technique on inadequately prepared subjects, nullifying the effect of solve et coagula
