Primary/Secondary Process (hypnotic field) is a technique of the Method Paret in the hypnosis category that describes the dual structure of human communication and the hypnotic encounter as a convergence of two simultaneous unconscious dimensions.

Definition

In the Method Paret, the Primary Process designates conscious communication: words, explicit concepts, verbal mental contents. The Secondary Process is instead unconscious non-verbal communication: the energetic field, presence, magnetism, fascination, micro-expressions, respiratory rhythm, vocal tone, and body geometry.

The hypnotic encounter is not a matter of exchanged words, but rather the alignment of two secondary processes that meet – metaphorically, two dreams converging in a shared space. This is the true nature of the hypnotic field in the Paret method.

When it is used

  • In non-verbal hypnosis to recognize which level of communication is actually operative
  • In the assessment of presence and personal magnetism
  • In understanding the failure of verbal techniques (when the primary process speaks, but the secondary process "screams" the opposite)
  • In advanced training to distinguish conscious communication from true communication (the unconscious one)
  • In hieratic techniques interventions where verticality and the field are fundamental parameters

Components and steps

  1. Recognition of duality: identify which content belongs to the primary process (words) and which to the secondary (field)
  2. Calibration of the secondary process: observation of congruence between verbal and non-verbal
  3. Synchronization: alignment of the two processes within oneself before any intervention
  4. Induction of the field: conscious generation of secondary communication through quantum techniques [to be confirmed by Marco]
  5. Meeting of the two dreams: creation of the hypnotic space where the two secondary processes integrate
  6. Sustaining: maintenance of field coherence for the entire duration of the intervention

Distinctions

  • vs classical Ericksonian hypnosis: it is not based on verbal metaphor and suggestion, but on the energetic field and unconscious fascination
  • vs NLP: it transcends neurolinguistic maps to operate directly in the register of magnetism and presence
  • vs direct hypnosis: not authoritarian nor based on verbal command, but on convergence of unconscious processes

Courses where it is taught

Notes

  • The most frequent error is confusing effective primary communication with true communication: the secondary process always prevails
  • Personal synchronization of one's own secondary process is an absolute prerequisite before any clinical application
  • [to be confirmed by Marco]: the role of quantum techniques in the deliberate generation of the secondary process
