Micro-expressions and Advanced CNV is a technique of the Paret Method in the cnv category. It enables the fine reading of facial micro-expressions and non-verbal communication (CNV) to recognize authentic emotional states, incongruences, and masking, fundamental in advanced coaching and relational diagnosis.

Definition

In the Paret method, the micro-expression represents an involuntary facial manifestation, of very brief duration (40-200 milliseconds), which precedes the conscious masking of emotion. The Advanced CNV technique integrates the reading of the seven universal expressions (fear, sadness, anger, disgust, surprise, joy, contempt) with the recognition of four intensity categories: full expressions, limited expressions, slight masking, and micro-expressions. This allows the Paret practitioner to access emotional information not mediated by the subject's awareness.

When to use

  • Relational coaching and high-effectiveness communication
  • Negotiation and decision-making contexts
  • Assessment of emotional authenticity in therapeutic relationships
  • Identification of incongruences between verbal message and internal state
  • Enhancement of presence and fascination through conscious alignment
  • Contexts where lie detection [to be confirmed by Marco] is diagnostically relevant

Components and steps

  1. Initial calibration: baseline observation of the subject in a neutral and relaxed state to establish individual facial patterns
  2. Mapping of the seven expressions: recognition of specific micro-patterns of fear, sadness, anger, disgust, surprise, joy, contempt on the client's face
  3. Intensity reading: discrimination between full expressions (no masking), limited (partial), slight masking (initial conscious control), and micro (fleeting, pre-conscious)
  4. Verbal-non-verbal correlation: comparison between declared content and facial signals to identify incongruences
  5. Anchoring and therapeutic use: integration of information into the coaching strategy without direct communication of the observation
  6. Calibrated feedback: [to be confirmed by Marco] when and how to communicate observations to maximize change

Distinctions

  • vs Lettura CNV classica: Paret Advanced CNV emphasizes involuntary micro-expressions and the recognition of four intensity levels, not just conscious macro-expressions
  • vs historical Ekman: the Paret method integrates the Ekmanian framework within the context of fascination, presence, and relational magnetism, not in diagnostic isolation

Notes

  • The micro-expression is not "proof of lying" but a signal of authentic emotion under control; interpretation requires cultural and contextual competence
  • Reliable recognition requires systematic training and repeated calibration on different subjects
  • In advanced fascination contexts, the client's micro-expressive observation informs the modulation of the practitioner's presence
