Technique of Opposites is a technique of the Method Paret in the hypnosis category that uses polarities and contrasts (right/left, hard/soft, masculine/feminine) to unlock blocked neurophysiological states, also operating remotely through nonverbal and quantum techniques.
Definition
The Technique of Opposites is based on the Rule Number Four of the Paret method: "Opposite ideas cannot be maintained simultaneously without inconsistencies." Through the simultaneous activation of contrary polarities, the individual's mind-body system is led towards a resignification of the blocked state. The technique operates primarily on nonverbal, magnetic, and hieratic channels, recognizing that every thought or idea causes a physical reaction (Rule Number One).
When to use
- Unlocking crystallized or recurring emotional states
- Resolving internal dichotomies (conflicts between opposing identities)
- Working on bodily polarities and energetic asymmetries
- Remote sessions (Zoom, telematic mode) where CNV becomes primary
- Situations of incongruence between verbal and nonverbal
Components and steps
- Identification of the blocked polarity: recognition of the active oppositional system (e.g., control/abandonment, rigidity/fluidity)
- Nonverbal calibration: reading CNV to tune into the individual's present state
- Simultaneous activation of opposites: induction of signals, gestures, magnetic presences representing both poles
- Maintenance of incongruence: sustaining the paradoxical state until resignification is achieved
- Integration and anchoring: stabilization of the new neurovegetative state through quantum techniques [to be confirmed by Marco]
- Nonverbal verification: checking congruence between verbal and nonverbal in the new state
Distinctions
- vs Reframing: reframing changes the logical meaning; Opposites work on paradoxicality without requiring new meaning
- vs Anchoring Techniques: anchoring fixes a state; Opposites fluidify it through contrast
- vs Ericksonian Hypnosis: Paret approach is nonverbal and magnetic; Erickson favors verbal metaphor
Courses where it is taught
- Ultimate IT lesson - nonverbal
- [to be confirmed by Marco if present in other ISI-CNV courses]
Notes
- The technique is particularly effective when the client shows evident somatic incongruences (contradictory body language compared to verbal)
- Requires high competence in Calibration and CNV reading; the most common mistake is trying to "explain" the opposites instead of making them live
- In remote mode (Zoom), the facilitator's magnetic presence and the quality of CNV become even more critical
